Hi
Kovalam life guards have not received any wages for the last three months yet are still patrolling the beach and performing rescues.
It also looks that they will not receive wages for this month so please spare a thought for them, personally I pass them some water or lemonade etc to show support and keep their spirits up perhaps others may like to do the same.
Think when you are tipping your waiter just for serving you lunch that the lifeguards rarely get a thank you even for saving lives.

Spare a thought for the Lifeguards
Hi Ian
I know this might seem like a silly question but why are they not paid? Do they volunteer? I will definitely bear this in mind when I visit Kerala in a couple of weeks.

Spare a thought for the Lifeguards
Hello Joanne
The life guards are not volunteers, the tourism department employ them but have not paid them.
The same thing happened last year and they finally got paid with back pay in April, it seems that they juggle funds perhaps waiting for the new tax year and the life guards are the bottom of the pile in my opinion.
Eventually they will get paid but this does not help them feed families, pay bills etc at the present time or in past months.
Regards
Ian
