Car hire from Agra to Bharatpur via Fathepur Sirki

Hi everyone,

I was hoping that someone could suggest a car w/driver in Agra.

The plan is to leave Agra around 1PM, drive to Fathepur Sikri and visit for a few hours, then get dropped at Bharatpur train station to catch a 6PM train.

Any suggestions would be appreciated and also if you could let me know what the estimated costs would be as well.

Thanks!

I think the price of the car depends on its percieved status. From about 6 or 7 Rs per mile for a little Suzuki, or such, then it might be 10 0r 11 or more per mile for bigger vehicles. If you are in the area, consider visiting Deeg Castle and Palace. It is off the beaten track but a mighty palace.

Book through your Agra hotel

You can hire cars from Avis also. They have office in Agra at the Trident Hotel. The service is of Avis worldwide standard. Their address is

Fatehbad Road, Agra,

Agra is a tourist oriented city, hence it is advisable to book vehicle from a reputed hotel/agency only.

I rarely contradict other posters on these forums but I disagree with the last post. Avis is the most expensive car rental company in India and mainly dedicated to the Vilas properties and other Oberoi properties (Oberois own the Avis fanchise in India through a subsidiary). Not really for the hoi polloi. Avoid unless you want to pay through your nose.

Thanks for the responses.

I am only in Agra for 1/2 day and will not be staying in a hotel there.

I would definitely like to have something pre-booked before arriving so not to get ripped off.

Do you think taking a bus would be a good option?

No there are no good deluxe buses. Try any of these two agents in Agra. Both have been in the business for ages and are well reputed -

Or get an agent in Jaipur to report the car to you in Agra. In either case you anyway need to pay for the empty run one way between Jaipur %26amp; Agra.

See Jaipur based agents at the Rajasthan Association of Tour Operators website - www.ratorajasthan.org

Bus wouldn%26#39;t make sense as you dont have to just reach agra, you got to go for sight seeing tooo...

We did Delhi/Agra/Jaipur (with a visit to Fathepur Sikri) a couple weeks ago and used www.iconindiatours.com, which has been recommended on this site. Our driver was great, altho his english was not too hot.

To be honest, Fathepur Sikri was our least favorite part of the trip, altho it%26#39;s easy to visit if you%26#39;re going to be in Agra. It%26#39;s an interesting place, but we were constantly hounded by people hanging around the place who wanted money for everything from tour guide to watching our shoes to donning the proper dress to enter the mosque. It was extremely annoying since we tried to be pleasant, but they wouldn%26#39;t take ';NO'; for an answer. It became impossible to enjoy our visit

and we couldn%26#39;t get out of there fast enough.

I know most of these people depend upon the tourists to make money to feed their families, (and we gave away plenty) but they make it difficult to enjoy these wonderful sites.

Yes ! Avis would be costly, but will provide excellent service.

Given your conditions, bus won%26#39;t suit you. You%26#39;ll have to hire a Taxi only.
