Goa and where?

Hi one and all.

I hope everyone%26#39;s holiday planning is going well.

My wife and I will be visiting Goa at the end of January next year for a friend%26#39;s wedding. They will be staying at the Dona Sylvia and it is highly likely that we will do the same.

However we would rather like to only spend a week in Goa and are wondering where one could combine the trip with. It%26#39;s nothing against Goa per se, but firstly we don%26#39;t want to overstay our welcome with our friends (it will be their honeymoon after all) and secondly I last visited Goa in 1994 and fear that the changes since will mean the trip will be a little disappointing.

So where else could we visit as part of a two centre holiday, without too much travelling? We%26#39;ve no desire to re-visit the Middle East, so a stop over there is not an option. Any thoughts will be gratefully received.

Take care, DrMike.

Goa and where?

How about having a week in Kerala? There are direct flights from Dabolim to Trivandrum, not sure how long it takes, but should%26#39;t be more than a couple of hours. We enjoyed Kerala, it%26#39;s different to Goa in many respects. Not so commercialised, hotels appear to be better (the one we stayed in, Uday Samudra in Kovalam) was excellent). Definitely worth a visit.

Goa and where?

We first visited Cavelossim in 1995 (our honeymoon) and altough there are changes it is nothing like the changes in Baga/Calangute etc. For an idea of what to expect now have a look at flickr.com/photos/… I have put together some photo albums of our Dec 08 trip. Any questions just ask ;-)

Or maybe travel around Karnataka - Badami, Hampi, Murudeshwar?

You will notice changes, I%26#39;m sure. In the 20something years I%26#39;ve been going there I%26#39;ve seen huge changes everywhere. The south is still relatively quiet, but development is everywhere.

If you haven`t been north to see the Taj Mahal then do so in January. Ideal time before temperature gets silly. Could also combine with a stopover in Mumbai or Udaipur ( fantastic Lake Palace there ). Lots of places really but the Taj is certainly a ';before you die'; place.

Thanks to one and all for your ideas. Nice to have some different things to think of. The other place I toyed with is the Lakshadweep%26#39;s. Has anyone combined that with Goa? It%26#39;s the kind of place I wouldn%26#39;t make a special trip for, but since we%26#39;re in the vicinity....

Thanks again, take care, DrMike.
