Looking at all kinds of ways to make this journey without so much train time.
Is it reasonable to get driven to Hubli, and there , there is a Kingfisher flight from there to Cochin. How is that drive, and how long?
Hampi to Cochin
Your choices are either to reach Goa or Bangalore and then catch a flight/overnight train to Kochi. Hubli is not connected to Kochi.
Hampi to Cochin
From Hampi (Hospet) to Hubli, you can either drive or take a train. I think the drive is about 3 hours. Trains - there are several connections from Hospet to Hampi, these also take roughly 3 hours. There are early morning trains as well as night trains.
From Hubli, you can fly into Cochin either via Mumbai or via Bangalore or via Goa as gjo said. It is too much to go into all the details here, so I am outlining the Mumbai scenario.
VIA MUMBAI:
Kingfisher has a 10:20 a.m. flight out of Hubli to Mumbai (arrives 12;05), and Jet has a connecting flight to Cochin at 13:40 (arrives Cochin 15:25). Or you can take a later Goair connection at 16:40, or a Kingfisher evening connection at 18:40.So, if you leave Hospet in the morning at 5:00 a.m., the earliest you%26#39;ll be in Cochin is 15:25. The trains you could take from Hospet to Hubli:
07430 RAYALASEEMA EXP departs HOSPET JN daily 05:20 arrives HUBLI JN 08:30
7315 and 7415 HARIPRIYA EXPRESS departs HOSPET JN 05:13 and arrives HUBLI JN 07:45
Train number 7430K (called the 7315 KOP LINK EXPRESS) which leaves HOSPET JN daily at 05:15 and arrives HUBLI 07:45.

My advice would be to take an overnight train from Hospet to Bangalore and an early morning flight from Bangalore to Kochi.
I agree with gjo.
I looked up the Goa alternative.
The train from Hospet to Madgaon (Goa) is 7 hours.
Type Hospet and Madgaon in the from and to fields of this page to see train details:

There is only 1 direct flight from Goa to Cochin, that%26#39;s with Paramount airways and it leaves Goa at 14:20.
The train doesn%26#39;t get into Goa in time for this flight.
Thanks for the suggestions. I understand that the airport in Bangalore is a good distance from the train station, so I would not make an early am flight.
There is a flight that leaves at 11am, but is even that cutting it too close?
The later flights are not direct or more expensive.
Now thinking back to Goa by train, Stay overnight and take the Paramount flight.
Paramount sells a direct flight from goa to cochin,
see for your self.
We left goa at 14.20 (+1.5 hour) and we arrived in our hotel in Cochin after 01.00. Direct?
We told Paramount to, at least, change the ';direct';, sofar they did not listen to us and to others.
No more paramount flights for us though.
