We paid 120rps a day in December for a Honda Activa scooter in decent condition. Try to get yellow number plates, they are %26#39;proper%26#39; hire bikes and you stand less chance of hassle from the law.

Where are they so cheap? Last year we paid 200-250 per day.

DavidMichael is correct with his hire price.They range from 100rps a day if you are in the Knowand for long periods to 200 if your haggling isnt so good.In the North that SHOULD be anywhere but some of the';friendly'; Hotel boys we hear that hire for you tend to put a cut on top for them selves making the hire price more.

Dont forget to obtain your 1948 version of the International Driving Permit before leaving UK,it is a legal requirement over here.

Crash helmets must be worn on National Highways,but ONLY by the rider.The national highway the NH17 is the road that goes right through Goa from the Border with Maharastre to Panji then on through South Goa to the border with Karnataka.

Your hirer will probably supply the helmet if you ask.Black/Yellow number plates are a must or else the vehicle is not licensed for hire purposes and BE CAREFUL dont try to immitate local driving.

I got mine via the St Sebastians restaurant next to Lagoa Azul in Arpora. I was told by the lads in a Baga shack you can get them for 100rps anywhere around there....but then they usually say stuff like that after you buy elsewhere - lol. Most if not all taxi drivers and room boys will find you a scooter. These prices are very cheap for us, but the actual total on-the-road price for a brand new Honda scooter is only about 600 quid and the second hand ones sell for next to nothing. Add the rental up at 25-30 quid a fortnight through the season and it%26#39;s a healthy sideline.

Thanks for all info. My OH has a scooter licence in the UK so his IDP always reflects that, and he wears a helmet on all main roads, i.e into Panjim.

Maybe you hired a motorbike and not a scooter they are about that price.
