been to my local chemist and they have this in stock. can anyone give some advice. how many weeks/how many tablets each day do you have to take? Are there side effects? Are this the best anti-malaria tablets to take?
chloroquine plus proguanil
IMHO...These are the best for me. They are probably the most poplular malaria tablets on the market.
You can get them in a travel pack from Travelpharm for about £13 a person.
For a two week holiday, you need to start taking the tablets one week before you go. One of the tablets, you take weekly and the other daily.
You continue to take them for four weeks after you return. Hence why when you buy the travel pack you have got seven strips of tablets.
I felt I was rattling at the end of the 7-weeks..lol!
chloroquine plus proguanil
Hi Heidi, Iain is right with the information given above and below is the link for Travelpharm:
travelpharm.com/index.cfm/malaria/Products.D…
Some people have problems with them, others don%26#39;t. I personally, have never had a problem with them when taken with my evening meal.
I always took mine just before bed. I will admit to not taking them twice due to forgetting because of too much HoneyBee!!
However, I just took them first thing in the morning....no problems.
These tablets you are refering to gave me terrible mouth ulcers once in india.
Ive read other forums about another product called doxycyline which has made people more prone to sun burn among other things.
Im off to Gambia next week and are going to take maralone with me although its expensive and has side effects to. (not reccommended for people with mental health problems)
Key thing is to consult with your GP to see which might be best for you.
Chloroquine and proguanil are the recommended ones for Goa Heidi, they rarely have side effects but are better taken with food, not least because they taste foul! Two tablets of one kind daily and two of the other weekly, they will come in blistered week packs so you wont make a mistake, start a week before you go and a month after you return. Have a great holiday!
