Hi
Just incase anyone is worried about the threat of Malaria please note that Kerala is a very low risk area. There is a very helpfull website at:-
www.malariasite.com/malaria/WhatIsMalaria.htm
which has a section on India:-
malariasite.com/malaria/malariainindia.htm
Personal prevention can be found at:-
www.malariasite.com/malaria/personal.htm
I myself do not take medication for Malaria but I do use a plug-in at night. Coils are good but after reading what the above site reports, I am now wiery of using them. Besides, they do give off a lot of smoke, have a strong smell, and can effect those who have asthma.
This year, as most year%26#39;s, Dengue Fever has been the problem. This is caused by a different mosquito that is active during the day. This year was particullary bad but the danger has now passed. A good site for Dengue Fever is:-
…nih.gov/topics/…Prevention.htm
I have never heard of any tourist getting either Malaria or Dengue Fever whilst visiting Kovalam and/or Kerala. If anyone has heard otherwise then please let us know.
