Retiring rooms at TRV airport

Hello,

I have heard about retiring rooms at TRV airport - can anyone tell me any more about them. i.e:

What is the standard like?

Are they private rooms?

How much do they cost?

How do you book them (or do you just turn up)?

I am going to flying into TRV 6 hours before my wife, so I might see if I can get one for a few hours sleep. Also, our flight back is at 5am, so I was thinking that it might be a better option than spending an extra night in a hotel - any advice would be welcome!

Thank you in advance for your help.

Tom

Retiring rooms at TRV airport

Hi Tom

Trivandrum airport has no retiring rooms as such but it does have rooms for those in transit only. I have heard that these are of pretty poor standard and not worth the money - R650/- for double %26amp; R450/- for single.

Don%26#39;t try or think about sleeping once you enter the arrivals area as you will only get moved on. My advice would be to go direct to your hotel and as your wife is travelling seperately I can%26#39;t see any harm being done in that.

Travelling back - you can only enter the airport building if you are travelling and only if you arrive about 3 hours before your flight. If you are too early then you will be refused entry and asked to wait. Therefore 2am is your ETA at the airport.

As the rest/retirment rooms are only for transit passengers then you only have 2 options. Pay for an extra night or arrive at the airport early and sit outside in the cool night air.

When in the airport do note that any food items bought are sold at a very highly inflated cost. A packet of crisps that are R10/- in the shops are sold for R40/- at the airport. Coffee/tea is avaliable but the sellers do not like giving change so make sure you keep some handy (tea R5/-, Coffee R6/- or it was in November 2008).

There is a new International Terminal being built which is due to be opened in May. It was supposed to be opened in December 2008 but got delayed. We all know what May/may means so don%26#39;t hold your breath as the roof is not yet complete (March 13th 2009) as I viewed the site today. This new terminal should allow earlier access and allow non travellers to stay with the travellers after the check in process. This should be far better but may mean more people.

Regards

Paul
