I wish to visit Munnar during mid-May 09 alongwith family. How is the weather during that period ?

Possibly the peak season during May. The summer heat simmers at the plains and people flock to the hills to beat the heat. All hill stations (Ooty - Kodai - Munnar etc) are pleasant by then (and crowded too!)

This is also the annual holiday season for schools and you will find lots of families and kids heading here.

Book everything (travel, stay etc) well in advance.

We visited the Munnar region last May. The weather was very pleasant in the day time, and cool at night. On a couple of days, it was cold-ish early mornings but most welcome to us from the hot and humid plains.

As it is peak season in May, it makes sense to book hotels in advance especially if you have any particular lodging in mind.

However, apart from the main tourist %26#39;spots%26#39; which will be crowded [go very early if you want to beat the long queues at Rajamala/Eravikulam NP], there are plenty of off the beaten track places where you will not find a soul. For example, if you are a nature lover, you can simply explore several trails going into forested and hilly areas or you could go for the guided treks at the Pambadum Shola sanctuary near Top Station or the guided treks at Chinnar sanctuary north of Maraiyur. These are modestly priced and you can do short or long treks as you wish. Most visitors never bother with these.
