Are Monarch Airlines that bad?

We have booked a holiday to Goa in November and are worried about the reviews we have read about Monarch airlines. Are they as bad as they sound. Is it worth paying the extra for the legroom seats or even paying more for premium ones?

One other question please, does anyone have any information on Majord Beach resort, what can we expect, this is our first trip to Goa but hopefully not our last.

The beach your hotel is on a wonderful beach the hotel I havent stayed at but friends who did loved it. Monarch is I am afraid as bad as ever, they converted us into scheduled flight via Mumbai ANYTHING to us is preferable to being treated the way they treat the travelling public. I had a cup of coffee (hot) poured all over me and all I got when I complained of being burned was a shrug!!!!!!

Thanks Goanluv,

Your advice is very much appreciated and we now feel great about the hotel but still worried about this airline. How can an airline be allowed to have such a bad reputation? Don%26#39;t the people who run it not know of the problems that passengers are having?

Has anyone got anything good to say about Monarch?

Hiya

We%26#39;ve flown Monarch a few times and still got nothing good tom say. Last time we upgraded. The seats are marginally bigger and have better legroom 2-4-2 instead of 3-4-3 ( I could actually lower and use my fold up tray ) If you book the extra legroom seats in cattle class you find that other passengers use the exit aisles to stretch their legs. If I have to use Monarch again I would book the upgrade. This year wqe fly My Travel and we%26#39;re hoping that it will be better

Thanks barkingcreek,

I think we will pay the extra for the upgrade, it sounds like it will be worth it. We have flown with my travel a few times to Jamaica and the Dom rep and we have had good planes, good staff and plenty room.

Thanks for your comments

I would never fly in Monarch economy we always upgrade we think its worth the extra money. But this year we are going with First Choice who now go direct from Manchester ecomomy pitch is 33inchs compared to 28/29 inchs with Monarch. And in the premuim seats 36 inchs. I have complained to Monarch about the terrible conditions passengers have to travel and they state it is the tour companies that request the extra seats in the planes.

Yes Monarch airlines are that bad. Travelled there and back this year with

Monarch and on both journeys my seat did not go back which is a bit of a co-incidence, its a lonmg journey anyway without being further cramped. If I travelled again Iwould definately pay for the upgrade.

Go scheduled via Mumbai, loads more space and its also cheaper!!! only adds a couple of hours if that and its well worth it.

How is flying Mumbai cheaper, it adds a couple of hours so surely must cost more.

Thanks for the tips guys they are sooooo welcome

thanks a bunch.

My other question about Majorda is still waiting to be answered so if anyone can advise us on what to expect then that will be welcome too.

we paid £580 flying out via Mumbai 10/11 and returned 30/12 via Mumbai try getting a charter flight for that! And the extra hour/s dont matter you only have to check in 1 hour before flying and you aren%26#39;t treated like cattle at Goa airport as you have already gone through immigration at Mumbai which is quicker and more professional than Goa airport. Hope someone responds to Majorda

bye

Hi

My partner and I flew Monarch recently to Goa but we were in the Premium Cabin. Our outbound flight was on Christmas Eve 2005 and we returned on New Year%26#39;s Day 2006. Overall, we were really pleased with the flight and service. We were not delayed on either flight and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

PROS:

- There is more legroom than economy

- You have dedicated check-in at the airport

- Onboard you get individual portable movie players with a wide range of movies (and you don%26#39;t need to pay for your earphones)

- You get a wider variety of food

- You don%26#39;t need to pay for drinks onboard

- You get a vanity bag with toothbrush, toothpaste, earplugs etc.

CONS:

- Not as good as British Airways%26#39; Premium Economy. Although you get more legroom than economy, you still feel cramped (especially if you are sat next to a large person, like I was). The premium seats on Monarch are more like the economy seats on a British Airways aeroplane.
